🔸Pakistan and Kuwait signed a new agreement to expand military cooperation between the two countries, under which Pakistan’s armed forces will help Kuwait in areas including training, strengthening military capabilities, and border management.

🔸The Pakistani Ministry of Defense said that the document, named “Protocol 2026,” “significantly” expands the framework for defense cooperation between the two countries that had been created under a 2023 agreement.

🔸The deal was signed in Rawalpindi during the visit of a high-level delegation led by Kuwait’s defense minister.

🔸The baseline agreement for defense cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait was signed in June 2023, and Kuwait officially approved it last month. In addition to military training, this framework also includes joint exercises, exchange of forces and experts, logistical, scientific and technical cooperation, and military intelligence cooperation.

🔸Defense relations between Pakistan and Kuwait have a multi-decade history, and Pakistan also participated in this country’s mine-clearing operations after Iraq’s occupation of Kuwait in 1990.

🔸Kuwait was among the countries that, during the 40-day war between the United States and Israel with Iran, were repeatedly targeted by Iranian missile and drone attacks.
