Qeshm governor: Attack on Iranian commercial ship left one dead and three injured

🔸Qeshm governor says an Iranian commercial vessel was targeted in the early hours of Sunday, 22 Shahrivar, in waters near this island, and as a result one person was killed and three others were injured.

🔸Amir Taimouri told the Islamic Republic of Iran’s state TV and radio news agency that the ship, around 5 a.m., was hit in the area between Hengam Island and the Shibde-râz coast, in the south of Qeshm.

🔸He did not provide further details about the name and type of the ship, the nature of the projectile that struck it, or the condition of the injured.

🔸At the same time, the state TV and radio news agency described the incident as a “terrorist enemy attack,” but did not announce the identity of the attacker. No official in the Islamic Republic has yet commented on the matter.

🔸On Sunday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations organization also reported a strike by an “unknown projectile” on a vessel while it was transiting through the Strait of Hormuz. In its initial report, the organization said the extent of the damage and the crew’s condition are unknown.

🔸However, it is still unclear whether the report by this organization and the incident announced by the Qeshm governor are related to the same ship or not.

🔸So far, no country or group has taken responsibility for the attack, and U.S. officials have not commented on it.

🔸The incident occurred while, in recent days, the U.S. Army, in response to missile attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on U.S. warships, has targeted several Iranian oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, has attacked several oil tankers and commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
