Reuters reported that Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andriy Sybiha, on Wednesday, the first of Mehr, said that in a meeting with Abbas Araqchi, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, he discussed reciprocal measures to prevent the escalation of tensions between the two countries.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, following the phone call between the two ministers in July.

Sybiha wrote on the X social media platform: “Diplomacy means direct dialogue, even in difficult conditions.”

He added: “Our conversation focused on reciprocal measures to prevent further escalation of tensions between the two countries. We agreed to keep existing communication channels open.”

The Ukrainian foreign minister said the two sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and Europe, and on ongoing efforts to establish peace.

Relations between Tehran and Kyiv became more tense after a drone attack by Ukraine on an Iranian ship in Tir, which resulted in the death of one sailor and the injury of another. The Islamic Republic condemned the attack.

After the attack, Sybiha, in a phone call, asked Araqchi to refrain from tension-provoking measures and to end support for Russia’s war against Ukraine.
