The official Syrian news agency SANA reported that senior Syrian and Israeli officials met in Jordan with US mediation to discuss stopping Israeli attacks and resuming negotiations to reach a security agreement.

According to SANA, the talks focused on ending Israeli attacks, detentions and targeted operations, as well as reducing tension between Israel and Turkey on Syrian territory.

Asaad al-Shibani, Syria’s foreign minister, also told Reuters that security negotiations, which were halted after the start of the Iran war, are likely to resume soon. He added that the two sides had previously reached an understanding about “almost everything,” including security arrangements in southern Syria, but Damascus has doubts about Israel’s implementation of the agreement.

In the Jordan talks, Damascus called for Israel to pull back to positions prior to Bashar al-Assad’s fall, to implement the 1974 troop separation agreement, and to preserve Syria’s right to rebuild its army and choose its allies. Syria also emphasized that it considers the Golan Heights to be part of its territory.
