Saudi Arabia’s official news agency announced that Muhammad bin Salman, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, met on Monday in Jeddah with Brett Cooper, commander of the U.S. Central Command.

According to the news agency, the two sides discussed defense cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States, regional developments, and efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen security and stability.

The meeting took place after reports about Riyadh’s failed request.

Based on an Axios report citing two U.S. officials, on Thursday bin Salman spoke by phone with Donald Trump, the U.S. president, twice and asked for a U.S. attack on the Houthis. Trump rejected the request.

A U.S. official said Washington is providing Saudi Arabia with targeting information and data about the Houthis, and about 200 American military personnel are deployed in Saudi Arabia in advance.

According to the same report, U.S. officials told Riyadh that Trump wants his focus to remain on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
