Hengaw human rights organization wrote in a report on the occasion of the start of the new academic year that from the beginning of fall 1404 to the beginning of fall 1405, at least 315 students and children under 18 years of age, and at least 59 teachers and university professors, have been detained by the security institutions of the Islamic Republic.

Hengaw added that during the same period, at least eight of these children and students, as well as at least 16 of the teachers and university professors, have been sentenced to prison.

This human rights organization strongly condemned the detentions and repressive actions against children and emphasized that in conditions of intensified repression and crises arising from clashes and war in Iran, children are among the most vulnerable groups in society, and any detention, threat, violence, and deprivation of their basic rights constitutes a clear violation of children’s rights and the Islamic Republic’s international obligations regarding protection of children.
