🔶 Syria: Explosion at an army base in the east of the country leaves 11 dead
Syrian officials reported that an explosion of unknown origin on Friday, September 18, occurred at a military base in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, and said that the incident resulted in the deaths of 11 people.
Citing the Syrian state news agency SANA, AFP reported that the Syrian Ministry of Defense held a funeral ceremony for the 11 people killed in the explosion at the army base.
The ministry also says that the cause of the explosion is under investigation.
Previously, several similar explosions had occurred in important Syrian ammunition depots; a country that, after the overthrow of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government in late 2024, is going through a process of emerging from more than a decade of civil war.
Earlier in this month (September), an explosion in an ammunition warehouse in the northwestern part of the country occurred, leaving 14 dead.
Earlier still, also in northwestern Syria, the explosion of a vehicle carrying ammunition killed at least five people.
