Takaychi at the UN: A nuclear catastrophe must never happen again

Sanäe Takaychi, Prime Minister of Japan, said in her speech at the 81st United Nations General Assembly that “the catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons must never be repeated.”

She said that Japan, as the only country to have been targeted by atomic bombing during wartime, is committed to leading the international community’s efforts to achieve a “world free of nuclear weapons.”

Takaychi also called for preserving and strengthening the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and for continuing practical actions on the path to nuclear disarmament.
