The European Union, on the fourth anniversary of the killing of Mahsa Zhina Amini, called on officials of the Islamic Republic to end violence and repression against the Iranian people and emphasized support for Iranians’ demands for respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. Referring to the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement and the protests of Dey and Bahman 1404, the bloc said that thousands of protesters were killed in those protests. The European Union also called the process of carrying out death sentences in Iran “horrific” and condemned the use of executions, violence, arbitrary detentions, and intimidation to silence critics.

Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s foreign minister, said that “the bloody repression of the Iranian government” cannot extinguish the cry of “Women, Life, Freedom,” and stressed Iranians’ right to make decisions freely about their future. The German Embassy in Tehran also honored the memory of Mahsa Amini. The U.S. Committee of Jews described her death as a global symbol of the suppression of women and the violation of human rights by the Islamic Republic, and said it would stand alongside those who are fighting for freedom in Iran.
