🔻 عراقچی: The new sanctions are the same old story and they will fail
Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, described new sanctions that are set to be imposed by the United States as “the same old story” and said they will fail.
Mr. Araqchi, in a post on the X social network, referred to a post by Barack Obama, the former U.S. president, from 2012 in which he wrote that “these sanctions will be the most crippling in history,” and wrote: “We’ve seen this movie before.”
The Iranian foreign minister said that “14 years ago” the United States announced it would impose “the most crippling sanctions in history,” and concluded that those sanctions “failed.”
He went on to say that “8 years ago” U.S. officials announced that “maximum pressure” would be applied on Iran, and then wrote that, in his view, those sanctions also “failed.”
Then Mr. Araqchi referred to the U.S. request “for Iran’s unconditional surrender” from “five months ago” and emphasized that “it failed as well.”
In the next part, the Iranian foreign minister referred to statements from U.S. officials in recent days about carrying out “the most crippling economic operation in history,” and said that “this, too, is destined to fail.”
According to him, “We’ve seen this movie before; the same old story.”
