The price of the U.S. dollar in Iran’s free market crossed 200,000 tomans on Sunday, the first day of Mehr, leaving a fresh record; at the same time, the British pound passed 272,000 tomans and the euro also moved close to the 234,000-toman range. The price of the Imami coin also exceeded 218 million tomans.
This surge in prices has occurred as the rial’s value continues to decline and alongside the intensification of political and economic pressures on the Islamic Republic.
