The Telegram channel «Kalemeh» reported that Mehdi Karoubi, the former speaker of the Islamic Republic Parliament, in a letter addressed to Masoud Pezeshkian, the president of the Islamic Republic, asked him that if conditions are provided, to meet with Donald Trump, the U.S. president, in order to achieve “sustainable peace.”

Karoubi, in this letter written to the people of Iran, attributed the harsh living conditions to the policies of past decades, especially sanctions, and wrote that the first step toward leaving behind crises is to overcome “self-made taboos” and review the red lines that, according to him, are at odds with national interests.

By referring to Iran’s current conditions, he wrote that the country is in one of the most sensitive moments in its historical timeline and that such circumstances require “historic decisions.”

Karoubi also, while announcing his support for Pezeshkian, asked him to “act in the capacity and position of the president.”

He called Pezeshkian’s trip to the United Nations headquarters a “unique opportunity” and wrote: “With the U.S. president, if conditions are provided, hold a meeting for constructive talks and sustainable peace, and do not fear the label of a group that is nothing in the face of the flood of the people.”
