🔻The U.S., Denmark and Greenland have signed a defense agreement that allows the United States to build two new military bases on this vast Arctic island, while at the same time emphasizing Denmark’s sovereignty over it.

Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said on Tuesday ahead of the signing ceremony of the agreement at the United Nations General Assembly in New York: «We will immediately begin the process of developing a broad military presence in suitable locations.»

Mette Frederiksen, Denmark’s prime minister, said the agreement «is good for the U.S., Denmark and Greenland, as well as for Europe and NATO.»

Meanwhile, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, prime minister of Greenland, described the agreement as a «win - win - win.»

By signing the agreement, the leaders of these three countries apparently put an end to more than a year of tensions over this Arctic region. Continued from:
