The Times of Israel reported that the Lod District Court sentenced Alexander Granovsky, a resident of Petah Tikva, to 13 and a half years in prison on charges of espionage, property damage, and arson on behalf of the Islamic Republic.

According to the report, Granovsky set fire to nine vehicles, wrote anti-government slogans, and monitored the neighborhood where Benny Gantz, the former Israeli defense minister, lives, in exchange for money received from an Iranian handler. The Central District Prosecutor’s Office in Israel announced the sentence as the harshest punishment issued to date for activity on behalf of Iran.

The Times of Israel also reported that a court in Jerusalem found four Palestinians from east of the city guilty who, as part of a judicial agreement, had admitted to involvement in another plan for Iran.

Two of the defendants filmed from the entrance of the Weizmann Institute of Science along with other suspects, and then learned that the action was part of a plan to assassinate a scientist associated with the institute, but they did not take any steps to prevent it.

Over the past two years, Israel has detained dozens of people suspected of acting for the Islamic Republic in exchange for money.
