🔸The Wall Street Journal, citing sources close to the White House, has reported that the Trump administration “has repeatedly told intermediaries that it has no interest in returning to the terms of the Islamabad understanding”.

🔸After the 60-day deadline for this understanding expired on August 26 and it failed to provide the conditions for a lasting agreement between Tehran and Washington, Donald Trump announced that he does not intend to extend its validity period.

🔸Since then, the U.S. president has chosen a policy of intensified economic pressure on Tehran, and according to Wall Street Journal sources, “wants to wait and see whether this new approach will be fruitful or not.”

🔸According to these sources, Donald Trump is especially not interested in returning to it because some in the United States believed that the terms of the understanding were not strict enough toward Iran.

🔸Anna Kelly, a White House spokesperson, also emphasized that the focus of the U.S. president is on increasing economic pressure on Iran.

🔸Ms. Kelly said: “As the president has stated, there is no discussion or negotiation with Iran underway, nor has any been planned for the future.”
