🔶 Trump seeks to send 40,000 heavy bombs to Israel
The United States is planning to send 40,000 bombs to Israel; a contract under which most of the cost is funded by Washington’s military aid. The use of American weapons in Gaza has faced human-rights criticisms.
The government of Donald Trump, the President of the United States, intends to deliver 40,000 heavy bombs to Israel under a contract worth $2.8 billion.
According to Reuters, the shipment includes 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, each weighing about 2,000 pounds, equivalent to 907 kilograms.
Based on reports, this will be one of the largest contracts to sell this type of bombs to Israel in recent years.
The contract has not yet been finalized and is in the planning stage, and relevant committees of the U.S. Congress have been informally informed about it.
Israel has used this type of heavy bombs extensively in the war in Gaza. As written by The Washington Post, 2,000-pound bombs have been used in hundreds of cases in Gaza and Lebanon, and in numerous instances have been accompanied by civilian casualties. The use of these bombs in densely populated areas of Gaza has also drawn human-rights criticisms.
