Two informed sources about the talks between Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, and officials of different countries, have told Israel’s Channel 12 that Washington currently does not expect any new offensive attacks against Iran, and that the Trump administration’s focus is on increasing economic pressure on Tehran and ensuring security for shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to these sources, Rubio has not ruled out the possibility of a U.S. military action if fighting resumes from Iran. This shift in approach has coincided with the imposition of new sanctions on the Islamic Republic and Donald Trump’s claim about clearing the Strait of Hormuz of sea mines.

Based on this report, the Trump government intends, in the current phase, to increase economic pressures on Iran and to create conditions for the normalization of the passage and movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Informed sources told Channel 12 that this approach is expected to continue at least until the U.S. midterm elections in early November, after which the possibility of reviewing the option of a broader military campaign may again be raised.
