🔻 U.S. national debt has crossed the 40 trillion dollar mark

Figures from the U.S. Department of the Treasury show that the United States’ national debt has more than doubled over a decade, reaching a significant figure of 40 trillion dollars.

This increase reflects years of heavy spending during the presidencies of Donald Trump and Joe Biden, alongside rising interest rates that have continuously added to the total debt.

In 2016, the U.S. national debt was slightly under 20 trillion dollars.

The Congressional Budget Office had projected that total debt would reach only 39.6 trillion dollars by the end of fiscal year 2026.

This faster-than-expected rise has heightened concerns about how quickly the U.S. government needs to borrow money and what that means for interest-rate increases in the future.

The U.S. Congressional Budget Office says the United States is approaching the debt ceiling of 41.1 trillion dollars and forecasts that the country’s debt will reach around 64 trillion dollars by 2036.

While the U.S. government is spending more money to cover its budget deficits, consumers are facing higher interest rates and higher inflation.
