❌— U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in an FT piece, wrote that the Trump administration has launched an “economic D-Day” against Iran at dawn and describes it as “the biggest financial attack ever carried out against an adversary.”

Bessent wrote that Washington intends to target countries and entities that buy or transport Iranian oil, facilitate financial transactions, register ships or aircraft linked to Iran, or otherwise continue to maintain economic relations with Tehran.

He warned that governments that continue to provide Iran with economic lifelines may themselves face financial isolation and reduced access to global markets.

Bessent noted that the goal is to “cut off all economic lifelines” that keep the Iranian government in place, arguing that severe financial pressure can eliminate the need for further U.S. military action.
