The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that its forces disabled a cargo ship flying the flag of Panama named “Wola Nova.” According to a CENTCOM statement, the vessel was transiting the Gulf of Oman and intended, by moving toward an Iranian port, to violate the U.S. maritime blockade.
After ignoring repeated warnings, a U.S. Navy helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles into the ship’s engine room.
Since the resumption of the U.S. maritime blockade against the Islamic Republic, CENTCOM has diverted the routes of 55 commercial vessels, disabled three vessels, and inspected two other ships.
