A U.S. State Department official told Reuters that representatives of Israel and Lebanon will meet in Rome in October to discuss a security agreement mediated by the United States in order to reduce clashes along the border between the two countries.

The official added that the continued implementation of this agreement is “the only practical mechanism for restoring Lebanese sovereignty and Israeli security,” and said that the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel will meet in Washington next week.

According to a Reuters report, the seventh round of talks between the two sides in Rome in August ended without making progress on the core territorial issues.
