After eight months since the detention of Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, by U.S. forces, another round of talks between the government and the opposition with the aim of a democratic transition in this country.

Viktor Amaya, a Venezuelan journalist, said that although the level of public optimism after the removal of Maduro rose to around 80 percent, the process of change has been slower than expected and this figure today is about 50 percent. He added that despite the relative decrease in repression and the opening up of the media environment, the main structure of power and the ruling political groups in Venezuela have still not changed significantly.
