An armed individual opened fire on Tuesday morning in front of a high school in the Turgutlu district in Manisa province, Turkey, killing one student and injuring four others.

Çetin Akın, the mayor of Turgutlu, said: “Following an attack by an armed person, one of our students lost his life and four students were injured.”

The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. local time in front of the İnci Özmez Vocational and Technical High School in the Albayrak neighborhood.

The Manisa governorate said in a statement that it received a report about a shooting near this school and that police and rescue forces were dispatched to the scene.

According to the Kocaeli newspaper, police have detained the attacker. The attacker’s motive and identity have not yet been officially announced.
