As many as 17 people have been killed by bear attacks in Russia in recent months, according to TASS estimates.

The highest death toll was recorded in the Krasnoyarsk Region in Siberia. Bear attacks have also been reported in the Tomsk and Irkutsk Regions, Buryatia, Altai, Kamchatka and the Khabarovsk Region. Forest fires and a poor pine nut harvest were among the reasons bears have been coming into contact with people.
