🔻As talks are announced to be making progress over the Strait of Hormuz, the UAE accuses Iran of attacking its oil tanker

The United Arab Emirates has accused Iran of a missile attack on an oil tanker belonging to the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the Strait of Hormuz; an attack that took place at the same time as Iran and Oman announced progress in negotiations over how this waterway would be managed.

On Saturday, the UAE Foreign Ministry condemned what it called an “Iranian hostile attack” on the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s “Adnak” oil tanker and said the attack caused no casualties.

Previously, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company had said that since the start of the war, 15 of its vessels have been targeted by missile and drone attacks while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, three of which occurred in the past week.

Iran has effectively imposed a severe restriction on ships’ passage through the Strait of Hormuz and is seeking payment of fees for passage through this waterway. The United States opposes Iran receiving such charges.

Based on a June understanding, Iran and Oman, as two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, are negotiating arrangements related to the “future management” of this waterway. On Saturday, Oman said the talks are progressing in a “positive and constructive” atmosphere.
