Associated Press reports that six months after the start of the war with Iran, American diplomats and some of their family members who had left the countries of the region in the early days of the war are in the process of returning to U.S. embassies in the Middle East.

The U.S. State Department has begun easing some restrictions, and its embassies in Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain have issued permission for diplomats’ family members to return. Previously, authorizations had also been issued for the return of families of American staff in Israel and Lebanon.

These restrictions were imposed in March and after attacks by the Islamic Republic on U.S. interests, embassies, and military installations.

Associated Press wrote that easing restrictions does not necessarily signal a change in policy by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump toward Iran, and to a large extent relates to administrative regulations. The U.S. State Department has also created a new status for continuing the work of diplomatic missions titled “limited operations.”
