Bloomberg reported that Britain, as part of an increase in economic pressure on the Islamic Republic, has tightened restrictions on Iranian banks.
The UK government said that requests for licenses to operate five sanctioned Iranian banks—including Bank Sepah, Bank Melli, Bank Saderat, Persia International Bank, and Bank Tejarat—will be rejected except in exceptional cases.
The move follows financial restrictions by Britain against the Islamic Republic, which have targeted the provision of loans and credit, investment, and some banking relationships.
In recent months, the United States has also increased pressure on the external activities of banks of the Islamic Republic, and some countries in the region have imposed restrictions on the activities of these banks.
