🔻Canada has imposed sanctions on five senior officials and five institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Canada has announced new sanctions against several senior Iranian officials and institutions under the management of the Islamic Republic.

According to a report by Agence France-Presse, these individuals and institutions have been targeted due to their “role in the violent suppression” of the Iranian people.

In a statement, Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the sanctions target five senior security and government officials in Iran and five government institutions, but it did not provide further details about their identities.

Canada said that “these individuals and institutions have been involved in Iran’s efforts to suppress opponents and limit the fundamental freedoms of the Iranian people, including through digital surveillance, censorship, unlawful use of violence, arbitrary detention and intimidation.”

Iran and Canada have no political relations with each other, and the embassies of the two countries in each other’s capitals are closed.
