Neria Laiter, the son of Yechiel Laiter, Israel’s ambassador in Washington, was severely injured in a car attack at the Makabim checkpoint in the West Bank.

The Israeli police said the attacker drove toward the forces stationed at the checkpoint and ran over Neria Laiter. According to reports, Israeli forces killed the attacker on the scene.

After the attack, Neria Laiter, a reserve soldier in the Israeli army, was transferred to a medical center in Jerusalem while he was unconscious. The hospital said he is in critical condition after receiving life-saving treatments, has been kept unconscious with medication, and is connected to a ventilator.

Israeli security officials identified the attacker as Mahmoud Mohammed Suleiman, 29, a resident of Beit Ur al-Tahta near Ramallah.

Yechiel Laiter, Israel’s ambassador to the United States, wrote on his X account that after learning that his son was injured, he is on his way back to Israel.

Neria Laiter is the brother of Moshe Yedidia Laiter, an Israeli army reservist who was killed in the Gaza war in November 2023.

Netanyahu wrote on his X account that he met with Neria Laiter’s family.
