🔻Canada, in response to the latest round of customs tariffs by Donald Trump’s government on Canadian goods, said it would impose retaliatory tariffs of up to 50% on a range of goods imported from the United States.

Canadian officials said on Tuesday that these tariffs cover nearly C$28 billion (about $20 billion) in American goods, including steel, furniture, fresh tuna fish, and cotton T-shirts.

The Canadian government said the list of goods subject to the tariffs has been drawn up so that it matches the goods targeted by the United States in relation to Canada. The tariffs are set to take effect on September 8—two weeks from now.

This latest move is the most recent stage in the escalation of trade tensions between the two countries; after trade talks between the United States and Canada ended without result at the end of last week, and each side accused the other of raising unreasonable demands at the last moments of the negotiations.
