CBS News on “60 Minutes” has released fresh details about the downing of a U.S. F-15 fighter jet in Iran and the rescue operation for its two crew members. The fighter jet was shot down on the evening of Farvardin 13 in a mountainous area in southern Isfahan by an Islamic Republic shoulder-fired missile.

Gen. Baird Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, said the mission was to attack facilities related to the Islamic Republic’s drone and missile program.

One of the crew members, despite fractures to his back, arm, and shoulder, reached an altitude of more than 2,100 meters to escape Islamic Republic forces, and hid in the highlands until the rescue operation was carried out.
