🔻 Donald Trump, the president of the United States, signed an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to “America Lake” for use in federal government documents and maps. The move comes amid escalating trade tensions between the United States and Canada.

Under this order, federal U.S. agencies will be required to use the name “America Lake” in their documents and information databases. It is expected that the U.S. Board on Geographic Names will also register the new name in official federal government systems.

Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America, located between Canada’s Ontario province and the U.S. state of New York, with more than half of its area within Canadian territory. The name of this lake is considered a shared geographical feature according to border and geographical agreements between the two countries.
