Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has recently announced new executive orders aimed at ending what he calls “birth tourism” in America and restricting the granting of citizenship from birth to certain groups.
The move is part of his administration’s renewed effort to limit access to American citizenship, despite the Supreme Court rejecting the first attempt by the Trump administration in June.
“Citizenship from birth” refers to the practice of granting citizenship to people who are born on U.S. soil; of course, with a few exceptions. “Birth tourism” is when certain foreign nationals travel to the United States specifically to give birth to their child and obtain citizenship for them.
