🔶Egypt and Oman foreign ministers stress the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open

Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s foreign minister, and Badr Abu Sayyidi, his Omani counterpart, discussed the Strait of Hormuz and regional developments in a phone call.

According to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, August 18 (27 Mordad), the two emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for international shipping, the need to continue diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, ensuring freedom of navigation, and also preventing any action that could exacerbate tensions in the region.

Based on this statement, the foreign ministers of Egypt and Oman also discussed the joint statement from Tehran and Muscat, which is expected to be published soon regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran and Oman have for some time been engaged in negotiations over the control and management of the Strait of Hormuz. Islamic Republic officials consider these talks separate from discussions between Tehran and Washington.
