🔶 Trump: Iran will not accept the agreement I consider necessary
Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said in a conversation with reporters on Monday, August 17 (July 26), in the Oval Office at the White House that the Iranian government wants an agreement, but is not willing to accept one that he considers necessary.
He said: “They want to make a deal, but they don’t want to do the one that’s necessary. We’re there [in the negotiations] for a reason: the Islamic Republic can’t and won’t have nuclear weapons.”
In response to a question about the memorandum of understanding he signed between Tehran and Washington, Trump clarified that the United States is not seeking to extend this memorandum.
The memorandum was signed in late Khordad by the U.S. president and Masoud Pezeshkian, president of Iran, and it included a 60-day, extendable deadline for carrying out negotiations and finalizing an agreement.
The memorandum ended on Monday, August 17, without reaching a specific result.
