Forough Jirany: Oil pollution may remain for between 10 and 30 years

🔸 Oil pollution on the southern coasts of Qeshm Island, which has also reached mangrove forests, has increased concerns about the environmental consequences on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz. Ismail Baqaii, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has reported seeing pollution in three coastal points and parts of the sea surface that has moved from the Persian Gulf toward the coast. The head of the Qeshm Department of Natural Resources and Watershed Management has also stated that identifying the exact source of the pollution will be put to expert assessments and the compilation of reports by the relevant authorities. Radio Farda has sought the views of Forough Jirany, an environmental expert and a former colleague of Iran’s Department of the Environment, who is now living in Germany.
