🔶 Greece moved the Patriot system to Crete to protect the Souda base

Greece, in the wake of increased tensions in the Middle East and concerns about possible threats to American facilities in the region, has strengthened protection for the Souda military base on the island of Crete.

Greek media, citing sources from the country’s Ministry of Defense, reported that an anti-aircraft Patriot system has been transferred to the island of Crete. According to these reports, the transfer of the system began at dawn on Sunday, August 23 (September 1).

The system had previously been deployed on the island of Karpathos and is now expected to protect the important Souda military base in Crete. At Souda, there is a major air and naval base that is of special military importance for Greece and its allies.

The base is also regularly used by American forces and is considered one of the key points of U.S. military presence in the eastern Mediterranean. Greek media wrote that the backdrop to this decision is the rise in tensions in the Middle East and concerns about possible threats to American facilities in the region.
