Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, spoke by phone on Saturday noon with Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister.

According to a statement by Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on matters of interest to the two countries and the latest developments in the region.

Pakistan played a mediating role in the formation of the Islamabad agreement. The agreement, which was supposed to begin a 60-day period of peace negotiations between Iran and the United States starting on Khordad 27, expired in mid-August and after the Islamic Republic’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Ishaq Dar also spoke last Thursday with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the two sides agreed that implementing the Islamabad agreement “remains the best path for reducing tensions.”
