Tehran Prosecutor’s Office announced that it has filed charges against the individuals involved in organizing a 10-kilometer race held in Velayat Park and has opened a judicial case. The prosecutor’s office claims that in this competition, “legal and religious principles were not observed.”

The 10-kilometer race was held early on Friday, 27 Shahrivar, with the participation of both women and men. The publication of images of some female participants without a head covering turned the competition into a subject of discussion on social media.

According to a report by Fars News Agency, the organizers have said the race was carried out with authorization from the Ministry of Interior and the Tehran athletics federation.

The Tehran athletics federation said that prior to the start of the competition, written commitments were taken from the participants to observe “hijab and Islamic propriety.”

Habib Sotoudeh-Nejad, Director-General of Sports in Tehran Province, told Tasnim News Agency that the event’s permit had been issued by the province’s security council, and that legal and disciplinary action would be taken against athletes who are identified as “at fault.”
