🔸The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, on Saturday, 24 Mordad, accused the French government of carrying out a project of “foreign influence and interference” in Iran and warned that if it were repeated what it called the “illegal, interference-related behaviors” of French diplomats, it would take action against those responsible.

🔸The statement refers to the incident on 28 Tir, during which two diplomats from the French Embassy in Tehran were detained and interrogated by Iranian security forces while they were at a private location for several hours. At the time, Paris said the phones of the two diplomats had been seized and that they were unable to contact the embassy, and that one of them had also been beaten.

🔸Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s foreign minister, described the action as “pre-planned” and a violation of diplomatic immunity, and France summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Paris in protest. Iranian officials denied any physical assault on the diplomats and claimed that they were present at a meeting with these individuals while carrying out a judicial order for the arrest of several security suspects.
