Israel targeted the Abu Zahur base in Syria near the Turkey border

🔸Israel, as tensions between Israel and Turkey over the rebuilding of the Syrian army have increased, carried out eight airstrikes targeting the “Abu Zahur” military base in northwest Syria near the Turkey border.

🔸Syrian state television on Tuesday morning, 27 Mordad, citing a military source, reported that the base’s airstrip and storage facilities were hit in these strikes, but there were no human casualties.

🔸The Israeli army and the Syrian Ministry of Defense have not yet issued a statement on this matter.

🔸The Abu Zahur base is located about 70 kilometers from the Turkey border and has not been active since 2013 as a dedicated military airport. During the Syrian civil war, the base changed hands several times between Bashar al-Assad’s forces and opposition groups.

🔸According to a military source, after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Azar 1403, this base was turned into a training center for the new Syrian army.

🔸According to Reuters, the latest attacks were carried out at a time when the new Syrian government is trying to rebuild the country’s armed forces, and Turkey has also taken on an increasing role in training and equipping the Syrian army.

🔸Ankara and Damascus previously signed an agreement for military cooperation that includes training and advising Syrian forces, as well as providing equipment and weapons systems.

🔸In recent months, Israel has also targeted a number of Syrian bases and military facilities and repeatedly warned that it will not allow Syria’s military capabilities to be strengthened in a way that creates a threat for Israel.
