The Israeli Army and the Greek Army announced that Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, head of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, met with General Dimitrios Hopeis, head of the National Defense General Staff of Greece, during his official visit to Israel.

Based on a statement by the Israeli Army, the visit “highlights the strategic importance of the existing military relations between Israel and Greece.” Neither side said when the meeting took place.

The meeting was announced amid intensifying tensions with Turkey. On Tuesday, Israel bombed the Abu Zhour air base in Syria and said Syria was on the verge of allowing Turkish forces to be stationed there. Ankara called the claim “not serious.”
