Israeli TV Channel 13 reported that the country’s army had planned an attack in Syria that was most likely intended to target positions of Turkey or forces affiliated with it, but Donald Trump, the U.S. president, personally intervened and forced Israel to cancel it.

Israel and Turkey have not commented on the report.

Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in Azar 1403, Israel has repeatedly bombarded positions in Syria and accused Ankara, which it says is trying to turn the country into a “Turkish protectorate.”

Israel is concerned that Turkey’s military deployment in Syria would limit the freedom of action of its air force in the region and has repeatedly asked Washington to rein in Ankara’s growing influence.
