Kayhan newspaper, which is published under the supervision of the representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, wrote in a note: “From a state in which the objection of an internet presenter for the purpose of cutting his program reaches even the cabinet, or efforts are made to bring a footballer back to the national team, it is also expected to hear the voices of millions of concerned families regarding the abandonment of mandatory hijab and its heavy consequences.”

The newspaper added: “Some are trying to raise false dichotomies such as hijab and livelihoods. This is a counterfeit dichotomy. The government, as much as it has a duty regarding people’s livelihoods and must, with all its might, work to resolve the economic problems of families, also has a duty regarding the preservation and safeguarding of the Iranian-Islamic culture of society and the foundations of the family in the cultural war, which is being carried out against a dense enemy.”

Kayhan added: “Officials of this government and, of course, some other individuals in the past years to date have considered the solution for improper hijab to be cultural work, and they oppose any kind of reminder—even for those who, from improper hijab, have reached the stage of semi-nudity, and these days have also brought about the voices of اعتراض of many of those who are less-hijab and those who are without hijab.”
