Lawmakers from both U.S. parties have asked the Trump administration to sanction Chinese banks that facilitate oil trade with the Islamic Republic.

Beijing has called these pressures unlawful and has warned about retaliatory actions and increased tensions ahead of a meeting between the presidents of the United States and China.
