Tahir Anbari, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said reports about the trip of Asim Munir, commander of the Pakistan army and defense forces, to Iran as a representative of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, are “misleading and incorrect.”

He said Munir traveled to Tehran within the framework of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to end the standoff between the United States and the Islamic Republic and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to Tehran.

Anbari added that Munir’s talks in Tehran focused on reducing regional tensions, breaking the military impasse, and finding a solution through negotiations to restore peace and stability to the region.

According to him, the trip was part of Pakistan’s role as a mediator, and officials of the Islamic Republic also welcomed Islamabad’s efforts to reduce tensions and resolve the conflict peacefully.
