Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, said on the second anniversary of his inauguration that he had been asked for Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, the speaker of parliament, to join Iran’s negotiating team, and that he accepted the request.

Mr. Pezeshkian said that representatives from the Judiciary, parliament, the armed forces, and other institutions are also present on the team to, as he put it, show that “we are all together.”

He added: “This decision was not solely a government decision,” and said that decision-making was carried out through coordination among the different institutions and based on “data, information, realities on the ground, the situation of the government, and the conditions of the people.”

Mr. Pezeshkian also thanked Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf and Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei for their cooperation in this process, and said that Abbas Araghchi remains the country’s “official diplomat” and, as he said, “works day and night.”

He also expressed regret that some people show disrespect toward Mr. Araghchi and said: “I don’t know which religion and creed allows a person to accuse another, insult them, or show disrespect.”
