Mehdi Tajzadeh, a political activist, was released from Evin Prison today on a temporary leave for a few days.

Tajzadeh, who during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami was Deputy Minister of the Interior and one of the prominent figures among reformists, was arrested following the protests of 1388.

He was imprisoned for seven years and was arrested again in Tir 1401, about six years after his release, and is currently serving his prison sentence for “collusion against national security” and “spreading falsehoods.”

The Jamaran news website says that a few days ago, despite initial approval for leave and the completion of steps to provide bail, he was prevented from leaving the prison.

According to Fakhralsadat Mohtashamipour, Tajzadeh’s wife, “the formation of a new case against him during his imprisonment prevented the implementation of his leave.”

Tajzadeh, in a letter last year after the 12-day war, asked the former Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic to “submit to fundamental changes appropriate for the country in order to save Iran.” He said: “The leader’s wrong strategies and his miscalculations have placed the Islamic Republic in its weakest and most fragile state.”
