On August 8, 1998, Iranian reporter Mahmoud Saremi along with 8 other diplomats were martyred by Taliban militants' attack in the Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Every year on this day, Iranians hold ceremonies throughout the country to pay tribute in honor of the journalists.
