Pawel Zalewski, Poland’s Deputy Minister of Defense, said that Poland is in talks with the United States to establish several American permanent military bases in this country.

It is expected that a senior U.S. defense official will visit Poland soon to review potential locations, although no specific locations and no force deployments have yet been agreed. At present, about 10,000 U.S. soldiers are in Poland, most of them on a rotational basis, and Poland is also seeking to enhance its own reconnaissance and command capabilities.

Warsaw has denied any deployment of American nuclear weapons in this country.
